Hi. I’m looking for some German-language TV shows with German subtitles that I can get free from YouTube. I’ve been watching and enjoying Der Bergdoktor, but would be glad for some variety. Any suggestions?
The videos in the mediathek (ARD, ZDF, ARTE, 3SAT, …) often come with subtitles. Those who are are marked with UT.
You would have to test whether you can import them via LingQ. There seems to be a program called MediaThekView that allows for downloading the subtitles, if a direct import isn’t working.

I’ve found that most of the shows, that I enjoy at least, don’t end up on youtube.
If you aren’t in need of importing into LingQ and are just looking for shows to watch, get a vpn and download ARD, ZDF and Arte app. (although there is some overlap onto ARD).
We personally love watching the reality shows…Feur und Flamme, Nachtstreife, Mittendrin - Flughafen Frankfurt, In höchster Not, Die Seenotretter. Most if not all of these have subtitles. Mittendrin you can also find on youtube, all episodes, but it’s easier to watch on ARD as it’s organized better and there’s a lot of seasons.
We do also like to watch a lot of documentaries on youtube from the various networks that Obsttorte mentions (and others). If you create a separate channel for your youtube watching and only watch German programming there you’ll also get other suggestions. Many of the documentaries we end up watching do have subtitles. Not all, but most.
If you’re looking for nonfictional stuff, ARD has all the season of Babylon Berlin again it looks like. We also enjoy Mord mit Aussicht, although I can’t remember if it has subtitles. Netflix has some options with subtitles too although they tend to not match the actual audio very well.
