@il-melomane - Thanks for the suggestion. We have been looking into the best way to deal with this change by Google. We are working on a few things and will upload them in our next update which should happen in the next few weeks. In the meantime, you will have to use other dictionary options. Sorry for the inconvenience.
Thanks very much, Mark. It has been wonderful to have Google translate working the way it used to. The hints were often very useful indeed. Let us hope you do find a way around this. I also greatly appreciate the phrase and sentence translations.
I notice that now that I sort of know over 28 000 words in German, very often not hint comes up. In the meantime, is there another program that could automatically give us hints when no previous user has put one in? I have found both DICT.cc and PONS very helpful. DICT also allows for breaking up long German words into bits. Useful when the definition of a compound word does not appear.
@Rae: You can set dict.cc or Pons as your default dictionaries. When you click on Search dictionary it will pop up.
Leo is a good one too. I use them when I get no definitions for English-German from Babylon.
I have to use other dictionaries for Dutch and French too, because Babylon often gives no proper definition for Dutch-German or Dutch-French.
