I’m in too. I will divide them among English, French and Esperanto.
No, no, Berta. It has to be 1000 hours for English, 1000 hours for French and 1000 hours for Esperanto. In your free time you can make lessons for LingQ
(sleeping is not compulsory)
Steve, tell me what counts as 1 hour.
Let’s say I listened to two podcasts for 10 minutes, 3 replicates each. Will this be considered an hour, or is it counted as 20 minutes? ![]()
I understand what you said as "it is convenient to you personally. "![]()
I’m wondering just your opinion, how would you calculate the time of this example.
Another such a question.
During the day when you go driving or skiing, and parallel to listen to podcasts. You naturally meet the words that you do not know. Then when you get a chance to read the context of podcasts, you do it always? (To parse unknown words)
Or the process is not mandatory? I take the example of a situation where you start to just learn the language as it is now a Korean.
Ok,
I am in for 2 hours a day. All on listening to German, since that is the only language I am currently studying. I have been doing this for some months now, so this is just to reinforce that and make sure I keep going. That would put my goal at 730 hours of listening for 2011.
Delaf,
Listening is listening. It is all time with the language. Beginners will listen to the same stuff often, and more advanced learners will listen less often to the same content. Until I am at least Intermediate 2, I always try to read and LingQ any text that I listen to.
Oscar I hate you :P. Ok, ok you’re right! I should focus on my french so I’ll do the challange only for French!
I love you too, Berta ![]()
I’ve managed to keep to 3 hours minimum per day, it’s the first time I’ve made a focused concerted effort to keep a sustained pace of learning. I’m very excited to see the results flow in : )
Maths, the results will be great, you’ll see ![]()
Listening is what I do all the time, in or outside LingQ. I didn’t know why the record of my listening hours kept being zero, until today (and I only noticed this zero this past weekend when went to the profile page to upload a picture) I thought the site would automatically record my listening hours like it records my known words. I now understand that I need to go to “Task” to activate the recording; but, if I don’t do the recording - I would just like to get on with my reading and listening right away when I come to this site, would it affect my activity score ?
Hours of listening doesn’t affect your activity score, but it is invaluable in the process of learning a language. Tracking your listening is completely optional, but some find it very motivating which is why we’ve included it in the Progress Snapshot. It is, nonetheless, a good way to see how active you’ve been over the past day, week, month, etc.
