Native Speaker Intuition

Hello everyone, I am a German university student and have to conduct a small scale study for a term paper. Basically, it’s all about your intuition. You will be asked to choose between two words in terms of which one appeared earlier in the history of language. There is no correct answer here, so don’t worry about whether your responses are right or wrong – it’s all about your gut feeling! Of course, everything is completely anonymous. Answering the survey will take about 5 minutes. The study is aimed at native speakers of German, English, and Dutch. Feel free to share the study with some friends as well. I am grateful for every response I get!

Nice survey. It’s an interesting issue. My personal pet peeve - using the noun “medal” as a verb, but apparently it’s not all that new - it dates from the 1800s.

Answering the questions is a worthwhile exercise for one to go through. The cartoon at the end explains a lot and has caused me some confusion while learning French.
