I don’t think it’s a good strategy to only spend time on lingq at first. After you get the basics of the language down (1. Structures, simple grammar 2. Characters for which I recommend 1. yoyochinese.com + chinesepod and 2. Heisig), then it’s fine to just do lingq. But you need certain fundamentals and explanations first, anyway. And a good electronic dictionary (Pleco for Chinese which has a free dictionary, but if you are serious, buy the paid add-ons inside - KEY, Abc and Oxford). Most of the time will be characters first, but it’s definitely possible in 1-2 years to have a solid grasp doing an hour per day. The yoyochinese beginner and intermediate courses are designed for half year each (if you have an hour or two per day you can finish them in 1-2 months each), and they are a perfect starting point.
