Trying to work at improving my listening comprehension, which is definitely (along with speaking) the weakest part of my A1 Vietnamese. A couple of ideas occur to me for enhancing the usefulness of audio playback.
These stem from knowing that my brain cannot currently parse most spoken sentences in real time, even for slower speech. The next sentence begins before I have worked through the meaning of the current sentence. It’s not that I may not be able to understand the whole sentence, mostly at least, but I need more time to do it. So one idea is to have a user-specified delay (eg 3-10 seconds) between playback of each sentence to give my brain time to extract as much meaning as possible from the current sentence.
And, second, I often need to listen to a sentence repeatedly, perhaps 3 ọr 5 times to extract the full meaning. I find that at each repeat I am listening out to make sense of sounds in different parts of the sentence and so progressively working my way through the sentence from start to end. So another control could program the repeating of each sentence a specified number of times.
I know that I can do this manually with sentence mode, but just thinking that an option to automate would make listening to the whole page/lesson a smoother and less disjointed experience,
Maybe it’s just me? But would anyone else find these ideas useful for those at the early A1/A2 stage of learning a new language? Hopefully they might be relatively simple to implement?
