I’ll add that if the definition popup had an “x” to close, that would also be more convenient than awkwardly swiping it away. Or tap anywhere else on the screen other than the popup to make it go away. Thanks.
Excellent update. Already fixed 2 bugs I was going to report. Really cool to see I can select the alternative audio now! Thanks Tiago!
Watching video in sentence mode and full screen mode is fun but sometimes the audio is not synced well, there doesn’t seems to be a way to tweak the timestamps. is the timestamp based on youtube or generated by LingQ ?
If it is not possible, I was thinking that if there is an optional feature that auto pause after each sentence that works in page mode it could be useful.
In page mode, out of sync doesn’t matter much since I can still read the sentence before and after.
In the new version, can users on mobile phones and tablets look up words by clicking on subtitles in YouTube lessons? I’d be so excited if that were possible!
Yes this is possible in Fullscreen / Horizontal mode, it’s really good. As long as you imported the subs directly from YouTube. I’m not sure if you use the whisper transcription tool if it will still do it, I know that manually importing a transcript without time stamps it won’t be possible but you can still do it in vertical mode that shows whole transcript. Loving this new version.
Honestly, I am blown away by full screen mode. This is the killer feature that this app has been missing.
One way to improve this a bit—this is for people who use “paging marks as known” when reading. When a blue word shows up in a subtitle, I might know that word and not want to click on it, to keep the flow of the video going. Once the next subtitle comes up, I’d like that blue word in the previous subtitle to be automatically marked as known.
Instead, right now, I have to click on each word and mark it as known. Maybe reaching the end of the video marks them all as known, I don’t know. But the reality for most language learners is that we don’t finish a lot of videos. I like to start a lot of videos but jump around to others, especially if they’re pretty long.
Another minor refinement I’d like to see is automatically turning off “Auto Text-to-Speech” when entering video mode, but auto re-enabling this setting when going back to reading mode. It’s nice to have in reading mode, but when in a video, it’s really jarring to hear the auto TTS voice when I click on a lingq.
@Hsingh We take YouTube’s captions (and timestamps), we don’t timestamp videos ourselves.

I’m passing on your feedback.
Video mode. Sort of amazing. No more messy upgrades. Integrated with Lingq databse.
You tube content, not hard Netflix.
Much better use of the screen; less useless white screen. Headings are gone in video mode but maybe that’s a good choice.
No shortcuts. Haves the value. now I still have to click around endlessly. Why can’t I have a harddware key to go to the next word and k to know it and not have to stop the video?
Great target language/ English font size choices. Not confusing.
I like the bit that tells you which word the video is on. Nice touch and usefully subtle.
I have to click twice to get teh video going. Hardware and shortcuts would stop that rubbish.
A tiny symbol/ coloured line could say when you have met your goal for the day.
The video is too small to adjust youtube properly (forward, back, slow it etc.) and no shortcuts is the problem.
Apparently there’s a full scren mode; great.
Slow speed plus Lingq words are great. A big boost forward. Shortcuts, even ust “k”, would help.
Changing the font size made the normal tex t huge and the video subtitles moderately big; not the right proportions.
Video subtitles aren’t clear when there are already subtitles in the video (Easy Greek). Maybe an optional background to hide 20% of the lower screen?
This is fantastic! The feature I’ve been waiting for is finally coming. Looking forward to the iOS update!
I just discovered the Add to Playlist button in the app. Nevermind, thanks to the past update, which I missed haha

It failed to work on my oldest Android machine; a pity but not much works on that. An APK parsing problem. Android 4.4.2.
Separately, on video mode, there is a plus sign. What does it do? Mark a word as know? The whole sentence as known?
It expands the menu to show the rest of the options: show translation, mark sentence known and review sentence.
Fantastic update. Gives my android app new life.
I would like to beta test
Please sign me up as a tester.
I will gladly test, thank you.
First of all, this update is great, it’s something I’ve personally been waiting for for a long time.
Here’s some feedback and a few suggestions:
Playback controls
I agree with the comments above that better controls would be very helpful in the regular video mode (video at the top with three lines of subtitles in the lower half). Ideally, there would be controls at the very bottom for play/pause, rewind 5 seconds, and playback speed, similar to what’s available when listening to a text-based lesson.
Playback speed bug
I think there may be a bug related to playback speed. It’s possible to change the speed in normal mode (though it’s not ideal, since you have to use the YouTube settings and the video is very small). However, when switching to full-screen mode, the playback speed resets to normal. I’m not sure if this affects everyone or just me.
Additional requests / suggestions
• Would it be possible to have the option to use a transcription service such as Whisper instead of YouTube’s auto-generated subtitles? The auto-generated ones are often inaccurate and frequently cut sentences in the middle.
• It would also be great if the LingQ (or at least the first few words of the LingQ) could be displayed above the word itself when watching in full-screen mode. This would significantly enhance immersion, and in many cases would remove the need to pause the video at all.
Overall, this is a fantastic update, thanks for the work on it!
Hello, I would like to be a tester.
