Oh yes, I remember listening to him when I was in my teens and early twenties!
Right after the late Radio 4 news on Saturday: “Good eVningg! …” 
They just don’t have guys like him anymore in broadcasting - even Radio 4 has become incredibly ugly, vulgar and distasteful (as well as biased.)
That’s part of the reason why I hate the BBC so much - I used to love it a little.
