Karaoke mode & Chinese legibility on computer screen

So, first off, the new karaoke mode is fantastic. I’m getting a lot of value out of it, and I think that it has noticeably improved the effectiveness of my study. Thank you.

That said, I just tried it on a computer for the first time, and discovered that the bold font it uses for the current sentence is a bit too heavy be legible for moderately complex Chinese characters. The strokes sort of blob together.

This isn’t the case on mobile. There, the text is just a bit less heavy.

Here’s an example of the same sentence on both my laptop:

and my phone:

As you can see, the difference in stroke width isn’t huge, but it’s enough to make a big difference in the legibility of the 看. And it even makes a bit of a difference for less dense characters like 你.

Some of it could also be that my laptop is lower DPI than my my phone. It’s a 2013 Retina MacBook, so not exactly a 4K monitor, but I think it might still be at least on par with typical laptop pixel densities nowadays.

Hi Seanu,

Thanks, we will look into this.
