Japanese import issues

There are issues again with imports for Japanese content for me. A lot of the videos I watch from youtube already have captions for both English and Japanese and they are timed well with the videos. For the past 3 weeks I have been importing and when I listen to the audio it does twice the length or more of what the sentence mode shows and I don’t see a way to edit it.

The sentences are parsed wrong too, and one of them ends mid word on one page and picks up on the next. Could this be account related, or the device I am importing from?

It’s the same thing with text brought in from websites. It’s driving me up a wall getting through a full 20 minute video without being able to focus on the content with all the errors. I subscribed for a year and I am barely utilizing it with all the issues. It get more out of just installing and reading blogs using an addon in iOS in Safari and looking a word here or there and then using another app for sentences I cant understand, or ChatGPT.

Are there any fixes coming, or is this just me that’s experiencing this? The forums aren’t the most user friendly so I didn’t take the time to look this time.

You’re not alone. I see the same problems importing content. I think a lot of it has to do with how the video is subtitled, but can’t say for sure. Regardless, it usually takes a lot of work to get most imports into a well-formatted, readable lesson that someone with OCD tendencies like myself can deal with.

Rooster has a new browser extension that saved me a lot of editing time. It lets me do the editing in Word or Open Office and copy/paste the results, instead of doing it line-by-line with the built-in editor. It’s worth checking out. He’s got forum posts about it here if you want to go that route.

I asked our developers to look into it. Thanks for reporting.

Hi Bart!
Can you please provide a link to a video which has problems after importing?
And, are you using the browser or mobile application?

Sure, here are a couple links:

In this one the timing is off. The video keeps playing after the sentence in sentence view mode ends and the sentences are jumbled together or cut off.

In this one, it abruptly ends a short sentence with お and picks up on the next page with 願いします.
The sentence is 学生 の フリータイムドリンク 飲み 放題 で お. Also, I have spaces turned off but sometimes it displays them.

I work mostly off of an iPad or iPhone and rarely at my desktop. My OS are up to date as well as the apps.
