What edits are you trying to make?
If you have Notepad++ (a great free document tool) then copy paste the document and run their Linebreak operation. There is an invisible character that specifies a line break and Notepad++ allows you to see them\remove them.

The phrases are not “connecting”.
The suggestion below from miscology should work. I use Word’s find and replace function. I’ll “find” the carriage returns and “replace” them with a space. Then I can quickly go through the entire document and convert it from broken lines to connected lines.
