Does anyone here have a speaker of their target language that they use as a model for their accent? Do you have a youtube link of this speaker?
I’ve decided to try to go for Albert Camus’ accent. I am absolutely in love with the sonority, and I think my voice is similarly pitched to his.

Arnold Schwarzenegger has a strong(!) Austrian accent. Thanks for posting the video!

This is the accent and the body I am aiming for.
So I read somewhere that they never let Arnold do his own German voiceovers in his fims since his country accent does not really work well for his roles.
As someone who only understands words here and there when listening to German, I have to say I prefer the Austrian accent. Will my opinion change by the time I understand what I am listening to?

“So I read somewhere that they never let Arnold do his own German voiceovers in his fims since his country accent does not really work well for his roles.”
It´s because his austrian accent sounds pretty badass when he speaks English, but the same accent makes him sound too gentle (I guess) when he´s speaking German. “Austrian German” sounds both gentle and funny to me.^^ (Hitler was an exception)

It probably depends on what you´ll have listened to. I´ve been constantly exposed to “Berlinerisch” and “Hochdeutsch” for the last 24 years, which is why Austrian German sounds “wrong” to me. Only exposing yourself to Austrian German might have the opposite effect^^
I guess most people prefer the accent they´re used to.

Tru d@. I listen to a lot of Austrian German. I even went so far as to record many hours of Austrian chat shows to listen to. I find the Austrian accent the nicest to hear and most other accents rather dull. The Austrian one seems like the most colourful to me.
[edit] …not that I think the other accents are boring. They just don’t sound as musical to me as the Austrian one.
@Colin
What do you mean by “other accents”? There are plenty of dialects (who often influence the accent) in Germany, Switzerland and Austria.^^

That’s what I mean by other accents.
Have you a favorite German accent? Or a favorite English accent?
I prefer “Hochdeutsch” with traces of(^^) a regional accent/dialect. 100%-hardcore Swiss German sounds weird, but Swiss Newsreporters sound kind of charming
My favorite dialect is “Berlinerisch”, but I guess that´s because I´ve lived here for all of my life.
All American accents I´ve heard so far sound pretty cool, with the exception of the Texas accent. ^^
I like whatever British accents Kate Nash and Richard Dawkins have. Jim Jefferies Australian accent sounds pretty cool, too.
If I were learning English I would be trying to get David Mansaray’s accent.
I have always been a big fan of Bertrand Russell.
