I listened to it

Which do you think is the most recent activity among the following cases?

  1. I listened to it.
  2. I have listened to it.
  3. I have just listened to it.
  4. I just listened to it.

3 and 4 are most recent, followed by 1 and 2.

Which is more recent between 1 and 2 ?

It really depends on context:

I listened to it five years ago
I listened to it five minutes ago
I have listened to it from time to time

Note that “I listened” and “I have listened” are not interchangeable and don’t really have anything to do with how far in the past the action took place.

“I listened” refers to an event in the past, which could be seconds in the past or centuries in the past.

As to their correct usage, I’m afraid English grammar is not my strong point (as I’m English). Somebody else would be better qualified to answer this !

"‘I listened’ refers to an event in the past, which could be seconds in the past or centuries in the past. "

Thank you for your explanation, Jamie. I understood what the past tense is.

i think the answer is 2
