I just joined this XXX conversation on #LingQ

In the last time I see many tweets like
“I just joined this XXX conversation on #LingQ http://…”

These tweets are quite annoying and useless, and the link doesn’t give any interesting information.

I have the feeling that the members even don’t know that these tweets are (according to their settings) are created “behind the curtain” by the LingQ system.

What is the purpose of these tweets? What do other members think about these “Share” options?

Why do people who tweet, tweet? What is this tweet business all about? I know what tweeting is, but can’t for the life of me figure out why people who tweet engage in such activity. I’m not trying to be sarcastic, by the way. I’m really curious…

Tweeter used to be for people who were bored in their lives. Today, it has turned into a marketing device.

BTW, how does the LingQ system know your twitter ID? I don’t see it configured in my profile.

We are happy for all feedback on these Twitter activities. We recognize that they are not ideal the way they are. You can access your Twitter/Facebook settings and hook up your account by clicking the Share button beside My Activities on your Profile. Of course, our members can determine which activities to share on these sites there as well.

The Twitter/Facebook etc. configuration & account connection is well hidden.
It’s not in the profile, it’s behind the “Share” button at the bottom of every lesson …

Thanks, hape. It’s actually both in the Profile and at the bottom of the lesson.

I don’t see the “Share” configuration in my profile… Or am I blind??

You should see it on your own Profile page here http://screencast.com/t/iX160VVPU7.

Ohhh, yes! Thanks Mark!

@ hape: I switched most of the share options off long ago, so as not to bore/annoy others any more than I usually do.

@ Yvette: most of the time it’s just a bit of fun, playing around with words. I also frequently pick up some interesting little tidbits of info which I can then follow up. There are some interesting French twitterers.

@SanneT:
Those tweets “I just joined this XXX conversation on #LingQ http://…” or “Ich studiere eine neue XXX-Lektion bei #LingQ http://…” originated from other members … :wink:

if the topic is actually XXX it might even be interesting to check the links out :stuck_out_tongue: SCNR

there should be more XXX language learning resources out there for todays youth

XXX = English, French, …
not what you think :wink:
