@davidmachin - It’s totally possible. I might have mentioned earlier in the thread, FSI hungarian, free to download, bit dry and old, but a great starter course.

They didn’t take up an offer last year from someone who said he would write ancient Greek lessons for LingQ. They have put the bar almost impossibly high for adding a new language because they’re already overwhelmed trying to support what they have now.

Szerintem nem jó ötlet, azt a “who is she”-t magyarra lefordítani. Ez a szöveg egy kicsit bonyolult, és néha mesterségesen és választékosan hangzik.
In my opinion, it is not a good idea to translate “who is she” to hungarian. This text is a little bit complicated, and sometimes sounds unnatural and formal.
@jpljpl: I agree that it’s too complicated to be a Beginner 1 series, but it has the advantage of being available in all the supported languages. However, I would start from “Greetings and goodbyes” and “Eating Out”.
@Nikca91: If you decided to translate “Who is She?”, please don’t just translate “dollars” literally. It’s so weird to read that the girl offers dollars to the man in the Italian, Swedish and other translations, when these countries have their own countries. That’s one thing you learn when you study translations.
I haven’t done any Hungarian in the past year. However my passive knowledge is still good and I read the news often.
While improving my Dutch and learning Russian, I discovered new stuff about my learning techniques and figured out that I could significantly improve my Hungarian knowledge using those new tools. I realized I tried to memorize too much vocabulary and didn’t structure enough my speech. IMO, for languages like Hungarian the ability to use words and expressions to coordinate sentences is eve, more important than in other idioms since there is no proper order of words. I found out that it was a new step in my Hungarian studies and that it might be the missing link I was looking for to develop complete fluency. I think I will get back to Hungarian at the end of the year.
I do not think it is such a complex languages, but it has a logic on its own and that’s what makes it difficult for most of us.
I realized it was way easier for me to learn other languages since I got into Hungarian. The structures are so particular that Russian grammar seems easy to me afterwards
Once you started lifting 150kg weights every day, going back to 130kg seems pretty easy

It’s nice that you learn Hungarian. Kind of funny that you compare it to Russian, saying it’s 20 kg heavier. By the way, anyone who wants to practice Hungarian can contact me. We could use Skype or mail. I need some Russian, German and English practice. Jó tanulást!

Hi everybody and especially Hungarians!
i have to write an essay on how English influences Hungarian. Can you help me with that? Is there anything you would say, thats definetly from England/America and we took it over? Any sayings/slogans etc you did not change?
I have created a survey, maybe the Hungarians could fill it in and help me with maybe finding some words or sentence structure that was influenced by English.
And how do you see the influence of English in your language? Will English overrun Hungarian and make it more English? Or do you think Hungarian is a strong language and will not be internationalised?
