How to change playback position when listening to an uploaded audio file?

I have uploaded some long .mp3 files, generated transcripts, and am reading and listening to them on my computer via the web interface. Sometimes when I pause to add vocabulary or go back and re-read something, the audio loses its place and restarts from the beginning.

When this happens, what’s the fastest way for me to get back to where I was in the audio?

It doesn’t seem to let me click and drag the little audio position/time marker moving along the line at the bottom, only click the button to jump forward 5 seconds (so I have to spend a long time repeatedly clicking that button if I was 30 minutes into the audio when it lost my place).

Is there a better way to jump to a position several minutes into an audio file?

Hmm… if I click “Sentence Mode” at the bottom, once I’m in sentence mode the slider at the bottom shows as green (rather than gray) and I can click and drag it to move to a position in the audio. When I leave sentence mode, the slider stays green and is still usable while viewing a full page.

Not sure what was going on there (possibly a bug?) but I’m glad it’s possible to work around it by briefly switching to sentence mode!

For the LingQ programmers, I have figured out how to trigger/replicate the bug:

  1. Listen to an audio lesson created by transcribing a .mp3 file, using the full page mode.
  2. In the top right, click the three dots and then click “Edit lesson”
  3. Make an edit to the lesson, then in the top left click “Back” to go back to reading/listening to the lesson.

At this point the audio starts over from the beginning, the slider you can drag at the bottom (near the play button) to change times/positions is greyed out, and if you mouse over it you get a symbol that looks like a little red “no” sign (circle with a diagonal line through it).

Once the bug has been triggered, it is possible to restore normal behavior by:

  1. Clicking “Sentence Mode” at the bottom.
  2. Using the slider at the TOP of the page to move forward/backward through sentences.

After #5, the slider at the bottom will go from gray back to green and will work again. It stays green and continues to work after leaving sentence mode and returning to full page mode.

I am using Firefox as my browser, I haven’t tested whether this also happens in other browsers or not.

Thanks, we will look into this.
