I am a native Afrikaans speaker and when I hear Dutch, not German, I can get frustrated by the fact that it sounds so familiar, but can only pick up a little bit. However, as I moved to England when I was 12 years old, my active knowledge of the language is much worse off. So when I try and speak Afrikaans, I get it mixed with German all the time.

I know ukrainien and russian, and decided learn polish. Some whom think that it is similar languages, but NO! I tool intensive polish courses and for 3 monthes I could talk well
