How many known words to get to Beginner 1 in Japanese?

I’ve seen a thread here that compiled all the word counts for different levels in different languages (image for reference)

On my Lingq profile though, it says i only need 100 words to get to beginner 1.
Am i misunderstanding how the levels work? I’m new to link so it could very well be ignorance on my part, I’d appreciate any input anyone might have about it

The 100 words could of been for Beginner 0. Just a prelevel before Beginner 1

Could be a bug or intentionally (the latter would appear a bit strange though).

Apparently in Japanese and Chinese the bar for Beginner 1 has (currently) been lowered while Beginner 2 stayed the same. That does not seem to be the case for other languages.

Perhaps, i will just have to get to the 100 known words to see what happens

I can understand being lowered to an extent, but it would be strange if they were lowered to only 100 words with the way Lingq counts words, thats so low.
I’ll just have to get to 100 words and see what it says then, see if it is a bug

One thing to watch out for is the misapplication of words that are misheard clips of words - I find this on the podcasts even the ones I listen to found from this site. I had already a lot of experience in Japanese and wanted to use it to maintain and review and consider this could make it very hard for a new learner who is not used to the structure of words and common phrases. I wouldn’t attach too much to the count of words - even Steve Kaufmann says this. At a certain point you will be more capable to handle more difficult things and that should tell you something.

@brianna.meigs The stats say “74 words to Beginner 1”. So currently, you are below Beginner 1, however you may call that.

That beeing said I wouldn’t pay too much attention to those stats. The amount of information they provide is … arguable.

I understand your reasoning, i guess i dont understand what the threshold numbers in the picture mean then, it says “beg 1, 665” so I’m not sure how the 100 words come in

There’s a difference between whether the provided features are actually useful and whether they function according to the intended specifications. The focus here is on the latter.
I think it’s a bug that it’s 100 instead of 665.

I’m at 312 words in Arabic and it says I’m beginner 1.
I don’t understand it either…

I see. Might be a glitch on their part
