Reviewing sentences is not a bad technique. It helps establish a context for word use.
Notice that in Lingq flashcards are created automatically and they contain a single word but linked to an example sentence, which might be a good combination for you [you can choose/edit/change the example sentence]. Some variations (such as cloze quizzes) makes you focus more on the sentence. Besides, because you don’t have to create the flashcards, this takes away part of the difficulty and boredom of the flashcard system.
Anyway, I still think that you’d better stick with what you like doing and avoid whatever you struggle with.
