How do I edit the text of audio-imported lesson?

I just used first time the new lesson importer and I wonder how can I edit the text. I can’t find the option. Can you, please, show me?

Without editing, the lesson is just a bunch of sentences thrown after each other. With errors. I’d like to:

  1. create paragraphs (because I need coheret text)
  2. create subtitles with bold/italic formatting
  3. correct the errors your transcription makes with “replace all” function and text edit function

Thanks, but the solution is not appplicable to me as I don’t have any text files of the audio. I need a real solution, not a workaround. Real solution is: if you generate a text you are able to edit it. That simple.

Unlike with the old lesson editor, when you select “Edit Lesson” it doesn’t show you the lesson text and allow you to edit translations and timestamps on that first page. In the top-left corner under the LingQ logo you will see 2 buttons: “Lesson Details” and “Lesson Text”. You need to press “Lesson Text”. This will show you the text. Editing is very different now. Easier in many respects, but can be slower, for example for timestamp editing when you need to copy and paste timestamps between adjacent sentences. When you click on a line, the translation and timestamps will appear on the right side of the window, but only if your window is wide enough! Pull it wider if you don’t see this appear. I consider this a bug - we should at least get a warning that the window is too narrow.

Different now: You must press “Save” when you are done editing.

Answers to your questions 1-3:

  1. Place your cursor (click your mouse) just past the very end of a line (paragraph) and press your DELETE key, or press BACKSPACE at the start of a paragraph, and two paragraphs will be joined into one. Now there will be a sentence split there instead. You can remove a mid-paragraph sentence split by backspacing on it to delete it and pressing space to insert a space instead. There may be an easier way, but I don’t know it yet. Not that this is hard.
  2. If you highlight text with your mouse, then you will be able to Bold and Italicize it.
  3. Press the magnifying glass icon next to the lesson title to do Find and Replace.

Splitting sentences: Click anywhere in a sentence and press your ENTER key and the sentence will be split in two. Unfortunately, both new sentences will have the same full original translation and start and end timestamps! You will need to fix at least the timestamps, which is cumbersome and time consuming.

LingQ: Fix this please! Don’t make it so hard for us. If we pause playback in the “Audio Timestamp” editor, then just use the pause position timestamp as the end timestamp of the 1st sentence, and the start timestamp of the 2nd sentence when we press ENTER to split a sentence. That would save us a ton of work! This is a no-brainer! Please do it!

Oh, and don’t worry about correcting translations. Just don’t even bother! It’s a waste of time! All translations will be constantly auto-replaced with bad auto-translations every time someone opens the lesson for about the first 24 hours of a lesson’s life. I consider this to be a bug (but it may have been intentional). It seems that after 24 hours or so, if you make translation edits, they will stay. But not in the first 24 hours or so! I hope this will be fixed soon.

Just to be clear: I love the new editor. It just needs bug fixes and improvements, particularly to improve sentence splitting and timestamp editing.

You’re welcome! I just hope LingQ makes the fixes and improvements that I mentioned. I’d love for the editing process to be a lot quicker and easier.
