Garbled word in a content

Hi!

I just encountered a garbled part in a lesson; The Linguist: A personal guide to language learning, 21. A Language Adventure. Working and Learning in Japan

What is the word after “a certain Latin” as in the following sentence;
"Montreal manages to inspire its citizens with a certain Latin élan in a harsh climate that can only be compared to Moscow amongst major world cities. "

I have just changed it to elan. (Apart from ‘flair’ it’s the only word I could think of as appropriate there.)

Hi SanneT.

Thank you so much for your answer.
Also, you not only answered the question but also kindly corrected the text.
I really appreciate your kindness. :slight_smile:
