Football in crisis

I’ve got a great solution that would make this sport much more interesting than it is these days. Quite simple, don’t pay the players just for “playing” (sometimes I don’t think they even try, they’ll get their check anyway).

They should only get paid if they win, and for each goal they make they can get an extra bonus pay, which will also be substracted for each goal they concede. If they lose and don’t score any goals then they don’t get paid. Simple as that. I don’t think anyone should get paid for making a mediocre job.

I’m sure that would make for players really playing their a** off, as it should be considering the millions of dollars they get paid. By the way, I think their paychecks are ridiculous and a slap in the face to today’s society and economy, but I don’t want to get into political discussions, so I’ll stop! haha

How can you criticise a team for not trying to score goals when you say goals should be special. Brasil was horrible against North Korea. And North Korea played well.

I predict Portugal and Brasil will end in a low scoring tie on Friday (LOL)…

I agree with you, Falcão, their paychecks are really pornographic, and “slap in the face” is a wonderful expression to describe this situation. But I don’t think your radical system would work… how would you pay for a competent defender? how would you define who played well or not? in fact, this is done in the long run, since players who play better get the best salaries and the chance to play in the best teams. But this is a highly subjective measure…
Ed, I say that soccer rules make goals something special, but this doesn’t mean I like low-score, defensive games. You are right, Brazil never play well in the first WC game, not in any WC that I can remember. But NK hasn’t played well either, they simply put their eleven players stuck in the defense field. This is what provokes boredom in soccer, not low scores. You can have a low-score tie in a well played and exciting game, if both teams are really meant to make goals, instead of sitting the entire team in from of their own goal. Take the NK x Portugal game. NK was stuck there again almost the entire game, but after the first goal, they got themselves without any options other than try to attack. What happened then? the real soccer players could do their work and Portugal got 6 more goals…
Anyway, you have a good chance in your prediction for tomorrow game. Portugal is in very comfortable position and probably is not going to risk it against Brazil…

ops.,… “never playS well”…

nil-nil, one-nil… boring! To much is happened by chance, I agree with Friedmann and Mark, something must be done to get more scores, be that offside rule, reducing the player or increasing the soccer goals… Otherwise, football risks to lost its popularity.
