Right now the only way to view another person’s activity in a different language is by manually changing the country code in the URL (like DE for German or RU for Russia).
It would be really useful if we could simply click on the language flags on a user’s profile to instantly switch and see their stats for that language. A clean panel on the right side (like the existing 7 Day Activity) would be perfect.
(Also not trying to draw any unwanted attention to this user — I just think they’re a great example of why this feature would be helpful and engaging for the whole community.)
I also think it would be good to improve how we access other users’ profiles in general. Right now, if I want to look at the stats of some one in the forum, you have to remember their username and manually swap it in the URL, which makes discovering other learners unnecessarily difficult.
One step at a time, but this would make the community feel much more connected.
Now for the user profiles, I believe the learning platform and the forums work independently, some users have different nicknames, some even have accounts in one but not the other.
Some people enjoy studying together, comparing themselves to each other or to more advanced users, trying to understand how others are studying. I think profiles can be set to private for those who don’t like it.
Edit: Maybe there isn’t a way to set it to private? I thought I had seen some private ones before.
Bro, if you don’t want anyone seeing your activity, maybe don’t use a platform that has public profiles, reciprocal follows, and editable bios. That’s literally how LingQ is built. If you want to hide your progress, this isn’t the right place for you.
Some people might find useful to see how much other people are doing for different reasons and motivation. Or for comparison between friends, and so on.
Considering that the option exist, it makes sense to make it better if possible.
They are not your bro. They have a valid point as well. We pay for using the platform, not necessarily for sharing all our public activities.
You can’t really properly follow profiles anyway because you don’t receive any notification, they are not well organized, and the platform has always being buggy on this regard.
I don’t remember if there was this option in the past, but I believe there should be an option to stay private if users want to. Even in the comments on their own profile. Users should have the right to set their profile as private! Imho.
This could be improved as well, but I don’t think LingQ would invest too much energy on this.
Okay, genius. Just because you don’t get notifications for follows doesn’t mean the feature wasn’t meant to exist. Public profiles aren’t a bug, they’re the whole point of the platform. Incomplete doesn’t mean private.
Good point about the language switch on that page. It’s really quite hidden. Yes, when we have some time we would like to improve our user profile and community interactions. This is in our long range plan.
Yeah, I see the flag button now on the right panel, I genuinely didn’t realize it was clickable at first!
Thanks for the reply. Good to hear it’s on the long range plan. I’m in it for the long run anyway, so I’m looking forward to whatever improvements come
