I have noticed a word which was marked as ‘known’ and also ‘do not include in tests’. I seem unable to turn off ‘do not include in tests’. If i mark the word as unknown ‘do not include in tests’ is turned off (seemingly) but if I then mark it as known ‘do not include in tests’ is turned back on automatically - as if it remembers it. How do I turn ‘do not include in tests’ off for a word that is known?
@pmda - If you know a word and click the tick mark then by default it will be set to not show up in tests. If you want the word to show up in tests then it is probably good to assign status 1-3 or click on Status 4 (and not the tick mark) then click the Status 4 button again to select when you would like to next review the word. By clicking “Never”, the word will be set to not show up in tests again. Let us know if you have any other questions!
Alex, Thanks
in truth I’ve never understood this question of controlling when words show up. But looking at it now here’s how I think it works and you can tell me if I’m right or not.
You say that I can 'click on Status 4 (and not the tick mark) then click the Status 4 button again to select when you would like to next review the word. For example.
-
I just clicked the check box ‘do not include in tests’ for the word ‘amicos’. The dotted underline disappeared.
-
I clicked 3 and the check box became de-activated and the word was coloured pale yellow.
-
I clicked 4 again and the check box was automatically depressed and the dotted line underneath the word disappeared.
-
I clicked 4 again and it asks me when I’ve like to be re-examined on the word.
-
If I click ‘never’ the dotted line doesn’t reappear and the word remains on 4 and the check box remains checked.
-
If I click 90 days the word remains on 4 and the dotted line reappears.
-
If I check on any other number 1-3 then checking on that number again doesn’t offer me any options as to when the number is examined.
-
Once checked when you’re at 4 the check box cannot be unchecked unless you go to a different status. So checking the check box at 4 is irreversible but the system give you an option to be examined again by checking 4 again.
But I thought that once you reached 4 you weren’t going to be examined on words anyway. So what’s the point of the check box?
What’s the thinking behind the word at 4 and giving us this control over when it shows up?
regards
Paul
@pmda - That all sounds correct
The tick mark moves the word to Status 4 - Never. We added this because some learners wanted a way to do this more easily without having to click on 4 twice then select “Never” from the popup. If you manually move a LingQ to Status 4 - Never then the tick mark will appear.
