Disappointed with LingQ’s Change to 600-Minute Upload and Transcribe Limit

You do still have unlimited imports, audio transcription is just one part of importing abilities at LingQ. You can still import as many lessons as you like and upload audios/texts manually if they can’t be trascribed due to limit.

Yes, it’s true that we can upload both audio and text manually. However, to do that, I now have to use external transcription tools, manually generate the transcript, and then copy and paste it into LingQ. That’s quite inconvenient—and it wasn’t what I expected when I bought LingQ.

This kind of explanation may work for new users—if they see the limits and still choose to pay, that’s their informed choice. But for those of us who already paid with a different understanding, it feels like we’re being shortchanged. I did not sign up for a plan with only 10 hours of transcription per month.

Audio transcription with syncing was a key feature that influenced my decision to purchase, and it was advertised as unlimited at the time of purchase. Now that it’s limited to 10 hours per month, it feels like you’re changing the deal after we’ve already paid—and that raises serious concerns about fairness and transparency.

I understand if you can no longer offer unlimited transcription, but the current limit of 10 hours per month is simply too low for serious learners. Please consider increasing the limit to at least 30 hours per month. I cannot afford to pay extra for a new transcription tier after already purchasing the Lifetime plan.

It is actually very inconvenient, even after copy and pasting our own text and audio, there will still be syncing issues. The audio sometimes cuts off too early and I have to go into edit sentence mode and sync it, it reached a point that I am no longer using sentence mode to read instead I rather just use the Edit-sentence mode to read so I can make the syncing edit quickly on the fly as I read the text. So 1st reading is done in edit sentence mode and 2nd reading done in normal sentence mode.

In the Android App I also prefer the placement of the play button in edit-sentence mode, it is in within each reach of my fingers using 1 hand.

@zoran If LingQ can make the syncing more perfect I won’t mind transcribing externally since there are free tools. Actually at the very least if LingQ let us do the lessons in edit sentence mode too that will be great. So any material consumed (read/listened) in edit-sentence mode should be added to statistics and counted towards streak.

Just to hijack the topic slightly, what are the best free transcription tools you use?

I only use a tool called vibe as a backup, but usually when I hit the limit or I don’t like the transcription by lingQ, note that vibe can also hallucinate and etc. GitHub - thewh1teagle/vibe: Transcribe on your own!

if only there was a way for lingQ to link up with local Vibe installation somehow and generate the transcription automatically for free.

Thanks, appreciate it.

Hi,

  1. is there an indicator as to when the timer will reset? or is it a hard reset on the 1st of every calendar month?

  2. i signed up around a week ago for a lifetime plan and already faced the limit… but now i have to wait out quite a chunk of my limited summer break before i can continue any audio uploads which is annoying when i didn’t think to upload the items in the order i’d want to study them in…

  3. also for languages like arabic, i’ve had to delete the generated lesson and reupload a number of items until it transcribes adequately (when it works it really works!), and i wonder if thats eaten into my monthly limit too?

So basically, i appreciate your app and hardwork, but please be aware summer time is grinding time! please be as quick as you can, even if it means an extra tier/add on even for lifetime…

Hussy,

There are some videos on how to set up Whisper AI on your own device. It takes some work, but I would highly recommend it in your situation if your language is supported. You can upload the .txt documents it outputs into LingQ yourself without any limit.

@HussyD786 We are working on this and you will soon be able to know what your limit is (time left) and date when limit will reset.
