For what it’s worth, I recall a statistic that might be relevant. If you look at surveys of national opinion in both the US and Canada, they tend to be different - more or less regardless of the issue.
But I remember seeing a survey result (I can’t remember where) where the results from Quebec and from the American South had both been removed. This brought the Canadian and American public opinions much closer to alignment. So, it might be fair ti say that public opinion in English Canada and in the non-South US are not all that different on a lot of issues.
It’s also important to remember that Canada and the US are both geographically very large countries, and they both have very diverse populations. It’s hard to generalize about countries like these.
I’m Canadian and lived in Vancouver for a long time, and in many respects, Vancouver has more in common with Seattle and Portland (go Cascadia!) then it does with other cities in Canada. But in other respects it doesn’t.
Also, Canada and the US have very different national histories, and this is bound to have an effect on individuals.
It may be my imagination, but I think I can recognize the difference between Canadians and Americans. But the differences are not things that will come out in just a casual conversation.
Although I agree that Americans are friendlier and more outgoing
Hi Im a Filipino Who has been Diagnose with T.S(tourette’s syndrome)
I live in California, Lodi
Sorry to bring this up to american people
I live here for about 1 year and Most (or every one) of the people here are not what you CALLED friendly
…so i was thinking about what my friend’s told me that america people are approachable, but i guess i was
wrong, so now i was thinking that Canada might be a good place for me rather than this state.
Canada Vs America
(hmmm.. I don't like america even a single bit)
while for Canada i think i should change my citizenship..
P.S (People who have disability, there is one thing i could tell you don’t pick America)
I played Old Timers Hockey (65 and over) this morning and one old guy (my age) slammed me face first against the boards and we had a little exchange, then later on another guy tripped me (accidentally he said). I am sure no American would be so unfriendly, right?
BTW we then settled our differences over beer and lunch, by then we had trouble remembering the game.( Senior moments).
Was using words, not spelling conventions. Spelling doesn’t matter. Oat, boat, and boot are all real words. Could have spoken them and mentioned nothing of the spelling.
I have lots of Canadian and American friends, and I don’t see any great differences between them. People are just people wherever you go, regardless of nationalities.
I like most Americans I meet. Mostly the northern US is quite similar to Canada. Try Washington state. Marijuana is decriminalised there now, if you are into that sort of thing. I am not a user of marijuana, but I support the decriminalisation of marijuana.
steve....!
I hope your right steve i hope your right T_T
Generally speaking (Im just 19 so this generation is different from what your generation Steve).
Americans: Seem to think that poverty and failure are morally suspect.
Canadians: Seem to believe that wealth and success are morally suspect.
Brits: Seem to believe that wealth, poverty, success, and failure are inherited.
Aussies: Seem to think that none of this matters after several beers.
