Some (but not all) Chinese language videos, when imported and displayed on my iPad, have the captions analyzed incorrectly. One YouTube channel in particular (the one that has produced this: https://youtu.be/VsY7_lJerW4?is=kf35umAUMjp8Tb5W) causes problems: most Chinese words consist of more than one character, but LingQ assumes most words in the captions are single-character words and lists the meanings of these characters as they would be in isolation. The translations in sentence mode are usually accurate, but the yellow and blue “words” that LingQ provides are almost without exception wrongly analyzed, which makes these videos rather useless as learning materials. Other imports from YouTube channels don’t have this issue with incorrectly analyzed captions, so perhaps this a bug that has to do with the details of how captions are handled in certain videos but not others? Is this a known bug with some kind of manual fix that can be applied?
We will try to figure out what could be wrong with that specific channel’s subtitles. I assume it’s related to subtitle file format, so there’s not much we can do, but we will investigate further.
