Is this a temporary problem with Lingq, or is there a problem with my account? When I try to edit an imported lesson, I get a screen like the one below, with no option to manually edit text or times. I’ve tried using Chrome and Firefox on a Windows 11 PC.
This is happening with all my imported lessons.
There has obviously been a major update.
Take a look at the top left: you will see two tabs there. The page you are currently viewing refers to the course, while the other tab refers to the lesson.
I’m so frustrated with this, it used to work perfectly, you could do everything in one single step, but now everything during the import is its own step which is very inconvenient. The text processing itself also takes longer than it used to.
But the biggest issue is that there is no longer any option to re-parse the text using AI which is something that I need in order to use Lingq. Or if it’s still there I can’t find it.
Is there an option to go back to the old interface? I really need to get this working, I have lots of free time to study tonight yet I’m completely stuck because of a technical issue

The text edit isn’t working properly. The changes haven’t been adequately tested before being made live.
I just imported a text file to the system. It was 2726 words and it is telling me that there are 295 blue words (22%). I acts as if there are 39 pages of text when I open it. It would normally be about 10 pages on the size of pages I use. It is a short story from an author that I have previously imported. Having 22% blue words is crazy. All of his other stories have been 2% or less and I have imported 6 of his stories all of which are longer. I can easily read the story.
I wish when they tried new stuff, they would allow us to use the old system until they get the new system working.

@sentionaut If I understand you correctly, the option to “re-parse the text using AI” is available in the upper-right corner. Open the dropdown menu to the right of the View Lesson/Save & View lesson button, and then choose “Regenerate lesson”
Thanks, but those are different things, AI parsing is a feature for spaceless languages that had a dedicated control under the previous UI
I did try to use the regenerate lesson setting thinking that maybe both had been merged together now, but it doesn’t seem like that’s the case

I can’t add my own srt file to the media files. Is this done to limit the number of upload per month and their transcription?
Yeah. Its extra glitchy now. Cant delete some words like (music) Cant edit the choppy sentences. When it does work it no longer matches with the video
@antonilin Could you explain what you mean by “adding your own srt file to the media files”? Importing SRTs works just as it always has. Or did you mean something else?
@RyanMJustin Could you share more details on the issues you’re experiencing? For example, a specific lesson where you can’t delete certain words or edit certain sentences.
@vallarta Do you mean that the same file, imported using the new flow, results in a different (worse) lesson than it would have a few days ago? If so, it would be good to get a link to the lesson so we can investigate this.
Good afternoon. I’ll try to explain my problem. In the old version of the site, when importing an audio lesson, you could add your own srt file. Right now I don’t see a field where I could add my srt to the lesson.
No it was not same file (story). It was a new one, but the stories are part of sequence of stories.

@sentionaut Okay so you are wanting to re-split the text in a language like Japanese or Chinese and Regenerate Lesson is not doing that for you?
The regenerate lesson feature always used to split the text in some way, but it’s never been correct, hence the need to use the AI parser in order to fix it.
If I use it now, it is indeed parsing the text in some way like it used to but that’s not the point, the point is that both features are not the same, and the AI parser, while not perfect, gets very close while simply generating or regenerating a lesson gives results that, at least in japanese, are too inaccurate to be usable.
I’m sure that feature is still there, but hasn’t been taken into account when designing the new UI, I wish using the previous UI was still possible because it frankly was much more convenient for me

Have you tried importing the SRT file first? I had a similar problem when trying to import my own text (not SRT). If I import the text first, I get an option to add audio when editing the lesson. If I import the audio first, I don’t see an option to add my own text, other than editing the lesson and pasting over the text generated by Lingq. (If I do that, I don’t see any way to regenerate time stamps, so I’d have to enter them all manually.)

Thanks for your tip which fixed my problem. The update has changed my import workflow from a 1 step process into a 3 step process:
Step 1: import my preexisting transcription as a .txt or .srt file, save changes and exit
Step 2: edit the lesson to add an audio file, then save changes
Step 3: edit the lesson to click “regenerate timestamps”
I study primarily with audio files which I already have transcriptions for. Previously it was possible to add the .srt or .txt file when importing the audio file. Now this workflow has been removed.

Oh, yes! These guys have made life difficult for us! The path has become much much longer.
