I don’t think it’s possible. At least not for me.
I need to know the context, which often means going through the text. Once I have the story in mind, I can really start to pick up words through listening quite easily and this improves my comprehension.
I’ll only really watch videos/movies/dramas for entertainment. As a main source of study, movies aren’t as “word rich” as a heated debate with three speakers on a podcast, so I’d rather going through that content in terms of acquiring vocabulary.
Learning a language completely through TV shows is a romantic idea, but not one that I share.
