What’s the correct order of the sentence??
-I don’t usually enjoy that kind of stories
or
-I usually don’t enjoy that kind of stories

The word order is correct in both of these examples. The first one is possibly a little more frequent.

BTW we would also say: “…that kind of story” (using the singular) or “…those kinds of stories” (using the plural.)

Interesting question! Both are correct (almost). Because ‘stories’ is plural, you should use ‘those kinds’ instead of ‘that kind’. Your two sentences should therefore be

  1. I don’t usually enjoy those kinds of stories
  2. I usually don’t enjoy those kinds of stories

Both of these sentences are correct, and they almost have identical meanings, but they are different. In sentence 1, the action is to enjoy those kinds of stories, and the sentence is saying that this is something you do not usually do. In sentence 2, the action is to not enjoy those kinds of stories, and the sentence is saying that this is something you do usually do.

The difference in the meanings of the sentences comes from the fact that when people say that they ‘do not enjoy’ something, they usually mean that they dislike it. For example, if I say ‘I do not enjoy the taste of potatoes’, then I am usually saying that I think potatoes taste bad.

Interesting. Personally I struggle hard to see any difference in meaning between these two sentences…!

@ J4J - I think they usually mean the same thing, but saying that you don’t enjoy something often means more than simply that you don’t get enjoyment from it. It often means that you actively dislike it.

@ Theworst - Sorry for unnecessarily complicating things. Both sentences are good.

On reflection I think you are right - there is a very subtle difference there.

(But personally I would probably interchange these two sentences pretty much at random! :-0)

Colin got it right! ’ those ’ in place of ’ that ’ if your using plural,

Also you can say alternatively

’ I don’t usually enjoy that kind of story/
Usually I don’t enjoy that kind of story/
I usually don’t enjoy that kind of story/
I don’t enjoy that kind of story usually ’

Note: Since I take it your referring to a specific kind plural won’t be necessary if you choose so!
