I hadn’t done anything in Finnish for a while now, but when I find an interesting subject on youtube, I tend to import and analyze it in lingq.
So, this morning I imported a Finnish video of Alexander Stubb about Iran. Interesting subject.
The importer did its work and created a lesson. It creates each subtitle line as a sentence and a paragraph, so I need to clean it up in order to get complete sentences.
This means adding fragments following the beginning of a sentence to that beginning and deleting the copied fragments. Finally, I adjust the end time in order to hear the whole sentence. I always check whether that is correctly adapted. And that is where the problems start.
It turns out, that when I adapt the end timing of the sentence, “the editor” also changes the start timing. It also seems to adapt the timings of previous sentences and they no longer give the whole sentence in audio.
Eventually, I gave up, as the cumulation of errors lead to non sensical sentences and timings.
I don’t know what happened, but this seems like a bug to me. Probably as a consequence of changes.
Please inform me whether you can reproduce the errors and when you have found the problem. When this is solved, I will want to import this video again and restart the editing session.
@gbonnema We weren’t able to reproduce this problem.
What browser are you using? Can you please make a video with the mentioned issue and send it over to support?
In sentence mode it had been doing to me too until I relized that I had to wait until the “Play” button turns from grey to black. Till it is grey it is refreshing the database and if you do edits during that it can mess up lots of things. Sometimes it is grey for minutes but most of the times it is 0-2 seconds.
The point is, that the “update” does not take place, until I leave the field I was updating. Which means, that it grays out, when I do a tab or when I reposition to a timing field with the mouse. That is when the editor freezes and updates the database. In that time, I cannot update the timer. After it is done updating, the timing field is available to an update.
These timing errors occur when combining fragments of a sentence into one sentence.
I now avoid the lesson editor as Korean naturally has shorter sentences and mostly are correctly shown as a sentence. I only do “remove paragraphs”, for which I probably should post a new bug report.
I met something similar. That’s why I edit the audio in the lesson, sentence mode. In the lesson view (or called “Edit lesson”) I edit the script only, I don’t touch the audio.
Only inline changes are for sentence mode. Combining sentences, means adding text to the first line, then changing timestamps and then deleting the line that was combined. Cannot do that in sentence mode, deletion is not an option.
I delete, combine the sentences in “Edit lesson” mode. But I don’t touch their time stamps there.
I change the time stamps when I’m in the sentence mode, when I’m learning. I go from one sentence to another and if the audio is incorrect I adjust it while I learn.
