Nice changes to the video interface–I like the +5 and -5 sec idea. One downside, however, is that the red video progress bar has disappeared in vertical video view (on phone).
I noticed another issue in full-screen mode with translations off. The TL (target language) text appears right over the video progress bar. The result is that if I click on a word to get a definition, sometimes the progress bar behind the words gets clicked too, taking me back to an earlier part of the video. I suggest that when translations are off to keep the position of the TL text in the same spot it was with translations on, above the video progress bar.
Still hoping for an “x” close button to be added to the definition popup in every view (vertical video, full-screen video, and reading mode) so that one can dismiss it without having to swipe it away or press elsewhere on the screen.
LOVE how fast the team is implementing the community’s requested changes!
Thank you for the feedback. Please confirm, you cannot see the youtube own red progress bar on vertical video view? If possible take a screenshot and please let me know your device model and OS version. I’ll work on fixing the second issue.
Thanks for the quick response! To clarify, when I opened the video this time, I realized that I can see the red progress bar only when I tap on the video to pause it, not during playback (which would be nice to see, so I know how much time is left in the video). Here’s the view:
Here’s some feedback. I like the new layout with the quick controls, it’s a nice improvement. However, there are still some issues with the playback speed. For me, 0.75x and 1.25x don’t seem to work; they play at normal speed. Also, as I mentioned in the main thread, the speed setting doesn’t persist when switching to full-screen mode, it just resets to normal speed.
It would also be helpful to have more granular speed options. Personally, I think 0.8x, 0.9x, and 1.0x would already cover most needs. Ideally, this could be implemented with a slider or increase/decrease speed arrows instead of cycling through options. If that’s not possible, it might make more sense for each tap to decrease the speed rather than increase it, since most learners will want slower audio. Not sure we need 2.0x, if someone can comfortably watch a video at that speed, they probably don’t need LingQ anymore.
I also like the -5 sec button, it’s just long enough to repeat the last sentence, which is very useful. But, I’m not sure the +5 sec button is really necessary. That space could potentially be used for better playback speed controls instead. As mentioned in this thread (https://forum.lingq.com/t/feature-request-more-slower-audio-speeds-available/2560172), a number of users have asked for more and slower playback speed options.
Thanks again, it’s great to see such a quick response time from the team.
