Bad listening habits

I think a good technique for listening is to consciously take your attention away from the sounds in the moment and try to maintain a certain mental distance. To disengage from the content, in other words.

Two techniques I use for this, WHILE listening are 1) to quickly make intuitive predictions about what will come next: either what words, or patterns of sounds… even the INTENT to make a prediction is enough. 2) to do flash intuitive reviews of the previous phrase asking yourself how you would have said it if you were the one speaking and you had to express the same concept. Again the intent alone is enough.

Somehow it adds a dimension of interest to either boring content or content that is too hard. I also think it aids in noticing, sort of like the perspective of being in a low flying aircraft.
