Allow the Video Player to Be Minimized While Keeping Audio Playing

Let users minimize the video without pausing the audio, so they can focus on the text and vocabulary.

Hi LingQ team,

I would like to suggest an improvement to the video player that I think could make the reading experience much better, especially when studying lessons with a lot of new vocabulary.

Currently, the video player stays on top of almost everything. It can even appear above the pop-up/modal where we check the meaning of words. Because of this, the video sometimes takes too much space and makes it harder to focus on what, in my opinion, is one of the most important parts of LingQ: the text, LingQs, and new words.

My suggestion is simple: allow users to minimize the video player or make it much smaller while keeping the audio playing.

For example, we could have a small floating video player in one of the corners of the screen, or even an option to temporarily reduce it to a very small player. The important part is that minimizing it should not pause the audio.

This would allow us to continue listening while giving much more screen space and priority to the text and vocabulary. It would also prevent the video from covering word definitions or other important parts of the interface.

From a technical point of view, this should be possible. In fact, I have already managed to implement something similar directly from the browser myself, changing the behavior of the player without modifying LingQ’s actual source code. So I believe this could be implemented properly as part of the official interface.

It could even be something similar to a Picture-in-Picture / mini-player mode, but integrated directly into the LingQ reader.

I think this small change could significantly improve the experience for people who use videos mainly for listening practice while actively reading, reviewing LingQs, and checking new vocabulary.

Just a suggestion to help improve the experience for the community. Thanks for considering it!

I think this add-on will fix the issue you’re experiencing.
