A2 Dreaming?

I’m currently at or around a weak A2 in my target language which I’ve been learning off and on for a while now. I’d just like to ask if anyone else has had this experience… I’ve noticed that when I do a few days in a row of intensive reading and listening, that is to say I really focus on the material doing an hour or more, when going to sleep I’ve found I’ve been kind of dreaming, not really dreaming actually, more like babbling and kind of saying words from my target language without really making much sense.

I’m only vaguely aware of it happening as I notice it when I’m drifting in and out of consciousness, that is too say, I’m doing it whilst I’m drifting off without wanting to do it, and then as I rise in and out of the first stages of going to sleep.

As I said, this isn’t a structured dream where I’m speaking coherently (I can barely string a sentence together when awake lol), but rather an incoherent jumble of nonsense. Does this happen to others? Or am I talking nonsense right now?

I’ve heard people at a high level have coherent dreams in their target language, but I’m not sure about what’s going on with me since I’m still at a very low level. Is this normal or weird?

First things first: you’re not a such a low level. Your vocabulary is already respectable. It’s just normal that you don’t feel confident yet but this doesn’t mean your level’s low.
And yes, I’ve noticed that kind of dreaming whlie learning some of my foreign languages. It’s as if a part of your brain wanted to expres itself in your target language.

Cool. Thanks for that. At least I know I’m not going mad lol.

Not madder than most people obsessed with learning a foreign language, anyway

It happens to me with every language I am focused at the moment. It’s a sign your brain is playing unconsciously with the new words.
